SoundSurreal has been playing records, and records only, for over thirty years. He bought his first set of Technics in 1992, while working at a record store in Feldkirch, Austria, and never looked back. A devoted vinyl purist, he has carried his crates to clubs from Bangkok to San Francisco to Ibiza, and most recently through a three year residency at Nar, Utrecht.

In an increasingly disposable, digital world he is one of a handful of DJs staying faithful to vinyl and the physical format. More prep, more weight, a hell of a lot more luggage, and no plans to change his tune. Playing vinyl exclusively is a commitment, and he lives it: see him play and you will watch someone feel every beat. Expect straight-for-the-dance-floor, no-nonsense borderless club music.

Two years ago, after a show at Nar, a conversation behind the decks with LA producer codyfromhighschool turned into an instant connection over vinyl, underground sounds and the energy of the dancefloor. That conversation grew into a studio partnership, and the Everybody Wants To Be A DJ EP is the result: born in Utrecht, finished across an ocean, and pressed on 100 copies of wax.

codyfromhighschool was born and raised in Los Angeles, grew up on a wide mix of genres and gravitated towards tech house and disco. Over the past decade he built a reputation for immersive DJ sets, and since 2024 he has been channelling that same energy into his own productions: organic textures, psychedelic flourishes and the untamed essence of the West Coast, made for the dancefloor.

His first release, My House, came out in April 2024. Since then: Back to Funk with Du Nord, 1BY1 on BangersOnly, A$ID ROCK with JOHNNY O and two tracks with Bucky, next to a steady stream of free edits and remixes. Behind the decks his range runs from funky house and disco to UK garage, hardgroove and techno, documented in his Recess Radio series and his guest mixes for Birdcage Radio. The very first Recess Radio episode was recorded with SoundSurreal at Birdcage Studios.

Inspired by California's surreal landscapes and Europe's underground pulse, his work with SoundSurreal weaves hypnotic grooves and mind-expanding sonics into music that feels both timeless and forward-thinking. Everybody Wants To Be A DJ is his first release on vinyl: born in Utrecht, during the years he lived there, and finished across an ocean. The distance never had an impact on the music.
